Truck Stop Tutorial
With interstate coast to coast and border to border runs keeping truckers away from home for weeks at a time, our country is demanding more of its long haul drivers than ever, and certainly more than most of countries of the world. To make life a little easier, a complete range of vital services has grown up along the interstate highway.
As the big rigs continue to roll day and night, drivers and operators can be assured that if the schedule is threatened by any circumstance, they will find all the assistance they need close at hand, within the confines of their enclosed world.
In the past, when the roads were still only two lanes wide, and the traffic was so much lighter, fuel and food stations could be found at crossroads, or at the edge of town. Customers parked at the roadside or, if mechanical help was needed, there may have been a place at the rear for a mechanic to look under the hood.
The stops that became really popular, either because of good food, cheap fuel or convivial atmosphere was easy to spot: they were the ones with a long, long line of trucks pulled up on the shoulder. As the traffic began to outgrow the highways, parking lots were added.
