Almost a third of all traffic accidents that end in a fatality are
those in which the vehicle leaves the road.
Often these crashes occur because people have been deprived of sleep
over an extended period of time. A recent survey showed that time and
again - truck drivers find themselves falling asleep at the wheel and
waking themselves just in time.
Of course, alcohol and drugs play a factor when it comes to people
being too sleepy to handle the road. But it seems that more often
than not, drivers just think they can make it to their destination if
they can just keep their eyes wide open.
At this moment, the rumble strips are worth their weight in gold – the
noise and bumps created by the strips wake the driver just in time –
so that the driver can react and pull over to safety.
They are, indeed, a welcome addition to highways for the benefit of
all truckers. The government did something right for a change!
