The Teamsters filed suit in a California Federal Court to stop a pilot
program that would allow Mexican truckers into the United States.
The Teamsters say that allowing these foreign trucks into the United
States would be risky at best, as they are not regulated like those
with US license plates.
This is supposed to be a pilot program that is for demonstration
purposes only. At the moment, Mexican trucks are allowed into the
USA, but only up to twenty five miles past the border.
NAFTA stated that access should be opened to all Mexican trucks, but
Congress has delayed this opening – some say this pilot program is the
beginning of an opening for the NAFTA access rule to take hold.
