| Excerpt from an old trucking article: Traditionally, county and local police are believed to work to a quota. The revenue they gather from erring truckers and other motorists serves to bolster local funds. Both parties have been involved in this game since the beginning of road transport, but there has developed a degree of mutual respect. Each side recognizes the other as professionals, and this is amply demonstrated when things get rough out on the highway. If there is a wreck or breakdown, rockfall or other hazard, a cop will not be in the least surprised to find a trucker directing operations until the emergency services arrive. In serious emergencies, they both understand that they should be the last to panic. Being true pros, cops and truckers both share one vital factor; road sense. |
