An excerpt from an old trucking book:

The cops have many new toys to keep the action spirited.  These include various radar devices, some of
which can give an instant digital reading of vehicle speeds in three lanes simultaneously, in any direction.

Against that sort of technology, the road-user would appear to be at a distinct disadvantage, but devices are
available which can detect these traps in good time.

With names like Fuzzbuster and Bearfinder, these black boxes seem to set out to enrage the officers.

Indeed, several states have made them illegal, although the careful trucker can hide one well enough to
escape a casual inspection of his cab.

.....and more.....

Until the blanket 55mph limit was imposed, many states had their own differing speed restrictions.

Now the trucker has his rig, a job to go with it, and the pile of paper that makes officialdom smile upon him, he
is, at last, ready to get right on down the road.

At this stage, he comes face to face with the real red tape tangle that will occupy so much of his time until he
says farewell to the highway.
